A construction risk assessment identifies the hazards in each task on site, rates how serious the risk is, and sets the controls that bring it down to an acceptable level. Under the Construction Regulations 2014 it must be site-specific and drawn up by a competent person — a generic, off-the-shelf assessment won't satisfy a principal contractor or a Department of Employment and Labour inspector.
A complete file usually carries a baseline risk assessment for the project as a whole, plus task-specific assessments for each high-risk activity — working at height, excavation, electrical work, lifting and so on. Each lists the hazards, the risk rating before and after controls, and the safe working method.
Risk assessments must be compiled by the Construction Regulation 9.1 appointed risk assessor and brought to the attention of the workers doing the task. We build each assessment around your actual scope and supply it ready for sign-off, as part of your safety file.
